For this post, I am wearing my music teacher/piano teacher hat. When teaching children (and adults) to read music, we often use little sayings to help memorize the names of the lines and spaces on the staff. The trouble is, these sayings are rather dated! I credit my students at Falmouth Middle School (back in the day, before I had kids!) for teaching me: Elvis’ Guitar Broke Down Friday (for the treble clef lines). And now, my own Phoebe helped come up with the following for the bass clef lines: Great Big Dragons Fly Always. We decided All Cows Eat Grass is still timeless… and we are kind of partial to visiting cows around here. 🙂
Here is our final result!
I won’t go into my philosophy on teaching note-reading here- wrong platform. 🙂 However, I am a firm believer in “every little bit helps.” Sometimes, when you are sitting at your instrument, and drawing a blank, “All Cows Eat Grass” comes in pretty handy! 🙂
