Is not this nice?

A Blogoversary, a prize, and every good thing!

For those of you who are just “not into” Jane Austen, you will have to bear with me for a little longer.  I dearly love a good quote from one of her novels.  And the best movies done based on her books, are the ones where the dialogue is left in tact.

Yes, I am spending an awful lot of time writing about Jane Austen this week… BUT, as I am enjoying it, and I have decided that my blog is for me, to enjoy writing about things, and I happen to be having fun with this at the moment, I am going to indulge myself just a little bit longer.

DRUMROLL>>>>>>>>>>>>

Happy Blogoversary to me! Happy Blogoversary to me! etc etc….

I have decided that today is the day I am going to celebrate 3 years  (and two months and 15 days) of blogging.

And the prize I will give to one lucky commenter, is a copy of Jane Austen’s book Northanger Abbey.  While it is NOT my most favorite book by the beloved author, it is her shortest one, and very fun, so it is good for a quick read.  It’s also less known, so I thought you would all be less likely to have read it!

I am going to give this book to someone who comments on this post.  It doesn’t HAVE to be Jane Austen quote, although if you happen to have a favorite, I would love to know what it is!  And I will choose a winner on Saturday morning.  (I hope I dont’ forget! I’ve never done this before!) :)   If you happen to leave me a fabulous Jane Austen quote, but already have that book, I might substitute for a different one.  I just happen to think that the world would be a better place if more people read and quoted Jane Austen.

Ok, maybe not really,  but I had fun writing it! And this is all about having fun!

Quite selfish really, but I’m having so much fun I hope you’ll play along!

I have so many favorite Austen quotes! But as you are celebrating I will quote from P &P:
It is where Mr Collins is answering if his compliments are rehearsed:He practices so that “on every occasion to offer those little delicate compliments which are always acceptable to ladies.” He is so comical and pathetic in the book and a couple movies have picked just the right cast member. (which, btw, we ate at the same restaurant, two tables away. He was there with his wife and kids, how funny to see him out of his black hat and long coat!)
So, compliments to you, felicitous greetings, and I’m sure Her Ladyship would approve of your little offerings of homage!

Oh Fabulous!! You ALMOST had dinner with Mr. Collins! I confess myself a teensy bit jealous of this! (And I love that quote, too!) We often say to each at times “You are very good.” :) Which I always as an insult when Rich says it to me, as everyone knows that when Elizabeth says that to Mr. Collins, she is really thinking “ok, so you are a decent person, but I can’t stand you.” heehee Another quote that makes itself into our conversation on a nearly daily basis is “I never pay ANY attention to the mail.” Know what that is from?

I will admit with MUCH embarrassment, especially when belonging to this family, that I am not versed in the writings of Jane Austin. Having only read Sense and Sensibility once ( and years ago at that ) I have much to learn and many quotes to use I’m sure. I’ve seen some of the movies based on her books and have enjoyed them, but the books are ALWAYS better.
But anyway, that will be one of my goals for this next year. Get some more good books under my belt and making the time to read them. I think your blogiversary is a fantastic idea and it’s encouraging to read your writings. I also think it’s a fantastic idea to take the time to do something you love. So good luck, keep at it and Happy Blogiversary!!

There is plenty of time! We will help you overcome the “effect of education(1),” or lack thereof, and “in time… with a little luck (2),” you, too will be quoting Jane Austen in your daily conversation! :) After all, “a quote is a quote, but a JANE AUSTEN quote (3)…” heehee

    quotes from:
    (1) Mansfield Park
    (2) Pride and Prejudice
    (3) Emma- modified to suit my situation
