So, maybe some of you follow my hubby’s blog, where he briefly blurted out in characteristic style, our news.
In short, we believe God has asked us to try to adopt a young boy from Haiti. The long version, which remains in my journal (a notebook that I started 4 weeks ago tomorrow, and is already completely full), may sometime appear here. It includes stirrings, dreams, prophetic words, the Still Small Voice, and just generally a wild ride of God speaking in frequent and profound ways. In the meantime, to save time, I thought I would post the email that I sent out to my extended family, after speaking with all the immediate family on the phone. It does not concern the story of how we came to be confident of this call. But it does explain what this is may look like, and what prayer needs are. If you can join us in prayer, that God’s will be done, we would greatly appreciate it!
Hello Family!
I am writing to share some news, and to ask you to be praying for us! We believe God has called us to try to adopt a child from Haiti. Right now we are waiting to hear back about the boys remaining in an orphanage in Port au Prince. These are children who were deemed legal orphans long before the earthquake, and the pastor of Kingdom of Kids Orphanage (long-time friend of Tim and Cindy Irish- for those who remember our Windham Baptist days) is trying to place those kids in homes, so he can take in a new group of orphans created by the earthquake. Right now Pastor Rigaud has had favor with the government there and here, and has successfully been sending children to adoptive families on humanitarian parole. Sometimes the process has all happened in a month or less. With things in Haiti further deteriorating daily, it is unknown whether this would be a short or long process, and it could take a month or it could take a year or more.
As of right now things stand like this:
* We are waiting to hear if there are still children at this specific orphanage who need homes. We will be adopting a boy, probably between the ages of 6 and 9.
* If there are no more boys there, we will be asking God what route we should take for connecting with another orphanage.
* We will need to raise possibly $6000 or more to cover lawyer fees in Haiti ($4000), the home study here ($1650), various documents from the state, fingerprinting, physicals, airfare etc. We “just happen to have” 1000 Cd’s here to sell, that we believe may be a part of that provision. So if you were thinking of purchasing a CD, you can the know the cost will go toward bringing our new son home from Haiti!
If we end up going through a different orphanage, the cost will most likely be more.
* There are many hurdles/obstacles to international adoption, and Haiti has historically been one of the more difficult places to adopt from, costing @$15-20,000 and taking 2-3 years. This is an amazing connection we have with Pastor Rigaud, where he is doing all the work of an agency, to make it more affordable. It is also amazing the favor he has had to be able to get so many kids out of Haiti in such a short amount of time.
Here is a video of Pastor Rigaud’s ministry in Haiti, which includes the orphanage, his church, and a school.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ro6kTpOyOEESo, if you would, please pray the Lord will connect us with the boy He has for us, that the reams of red tape will roll smoothly along, and that CD’s will sell, and perhaps donations would come in, to help make this possible.
So nice to be part of a family that PRAYS!
Love to you all,
Spring (for Rich, Levi, Phoebe and MollyP.S. CD’s are $12.
